Switch Your Broker
Switch Your Employee Benefits Broker Without Disrupting Cover
Your company can change its medical aid or gap cover broker without changing scheme, option or contributions, and without any break in your employees’ cover. Your authorised signatory signs a broker appointment letter, the scheme updates its records, and we take over servicing your group. Because broker commission is paid by the scheme, switching doesn’t change what your company or your employees pay.
Signs your current broker isn’t working for you
Most companies don’t switch because of one big problem. It’s the accumulation of small ones.
You only hear from them at renewal
Or not at all. Increases arrive and are accepted without a review of options or alternatives.
HR is doing the admin
Your team is chasing applications, dependant changes and claims queries that your broker should be handling.
Employees go straight to the call centre
Staff don’t know who their broker is, or can’t get hold of them when they need a hospital authorisation.
No one has challenged the structure
The same options have been in place for years, even though your workforce, budget and the market have changed.
What changes, and what doesn’t
| Stays the same | Changes |
|---|---|
| Your medical scheme and options | Who services your group |
| Contributions and broker commission rates | Who your HR team and employees call |
| Member numbers and cover | Who reviews your benefits and negotiates at renewal |
| Waiting periods and benefits already in place | The standard of support your people receive |
When to switch
You can appoint a new broker at any time of the year. That said, the best time is before the scheme renewal cycle, usually from August to October, so your new broker can review the year’s increases and option changes on your behalf rather than inheriting decisions already made.
If your renewal is coming up, see our annual employee benefits renewal review.
What it costs
Nothing extra. Broker commission is paid by the medical scheme or insurer at a regulated rate, and it simply moves from your previous broker to us.
Our post on the risks of managing employee medical aid without a broker explains what you should expect for it.

Frequently asked questions
Will our employees' cover be affected?
No. Your scheme, options, member numbers and benefits stay exactly the same. Only the servicing broker changes.
Do our employees need to reapply or sign anything?
No. The broker appointment is made at company level by your authorised signatory.
Can we switch brokers in the middle of the year?
Yes. The appointment usually takes effect once the scheme has processed the letter, regardless of your renewal date.
Do we need to tell our current broker?
The appointment letter goes to the scheme, which updates its records. Many companies also let their current broker know as a courtesy, and we can help you with that conversation.
What about our gap cover and other benefits?
Each scheme and insurer has its own appointment process. We’ll list every product you have in place and handle each one.
What information do you need from us?
A recent scheme invoice or member list, your scheme and options, your renewal date and any open queries or claims issues.
